1. Pre-Testing Hydration Requirements
Donors must maintain normal hydration but restrict water intake to a maximum of 500 mL in the hour before testing to prevent a diluted sample.
-
2. Temperature Equilibration of Kit
Bring the sealed foil pouch to room temperature before opening it to protect the test components from moisture.
-
3. Device Unboxing and Key Removal
Remove the test cup from the pouch and twist the key out from the center of the cup lid.
-
4. Specimen Collection and Minimum Volume
Collect the urine sample directly into the cup, filling it at least one-third full to ensure an adequate testing volume.
-
5. Lid Security and Initial Sealing
Place the cup on a flat surface and press down on the pull tab until it clicks to seal it securely.
-
6. Test Activation via Key Insertion
Push the previously detached key firmly into the cup's lower socket to initiate the testing process.
-
7. Set the Timer
Immediately start a timer for 5 minutes once the mechanism is activated. Allow the cup to sit undisturbed on the flat surface while the results develop.
-
8. Temperature Verification Window
Check the temperature strip between 2 and 4 minutes; the green indicator must read between 32°C and 38°C to be valid.
-
9. Adulteration Strip Evaluation
Compare the adulteration strips to the reference chart between 3 and 5 minutes and void the test if contamination is detected.
-
10. Result Label Removal and Timing Limits
Peel off the front label at 5 minutes to view results, and do not interpret any readings after 60 minutes.
-
11. Control Line Validation
Verify that a visible line appears in every Control (C) zone; if any control line is missing, the test is invalid.
-
12. Test Line Interpretation and Results Reading
Check the test regions (T); any visible line indicates a negative result, while the absence of a line indicates a positive result.

Purchasing drug and alcohol testing devices in bulk can lead to considerable cost reductions and enhance the efficiency of workplace testing. Organizations that routinely screen employees frequently opt to buy larger quantities to uphold compliance programs and lower the cost per test. Additionally, bulk purchasing guarantees a steady supply of stock and minimizes interruptions when testing is necessary. Breathalysers New Zealand provides discounts for bulk purchases, which can be found at the top of each of our drug testing product pages.
Saliva and urine drug tests are frequently employed for drug screening in the workplace. Nonetheless, they identify drug use in distinct ways. Saliva testing is effective in detecting recent drug use and is particularly useful for assessing impairment at the time of testing, which makes it well-suited for workplace and roadside scenarios. In contrast, urine testing identifies drug metabolites over an extended period, making it more appropriate for recognizing historical or habitual drug use potentially affecting the workplace. Saliva testing is less invasive, simpler to supervise, and yields quicker onsite results, whereas urine testing typically offers a longer detection window.
Please review our Workplace Drug Testing Compliance Guide, which can be accessed here: Workplace Drug Test Compliance Guide.
Any organization seeking to maximise employee performance and address the risks associated with drug and alcohol use must implement clear policies. This is particularly vital in sectors where safety is paramount. Employers have a responsibility to foster a safe workplace and may develop policies to support this obligation. A clearly articulated policy helps ensure consistency across the organization and reduces the likelihood of legal consequences.
